| A native of Curacao, Josephina played two years at Hillsborough Community College and then two at Division II Palm Beach Atlantic. He pitched as a starter his second year at Hillsborough and part of his junior year at Palm Beach, then moved to the bullpen full time his senior year. In 2019 he had a 2.23 ERA (the team ERA was 4.51) and .189 opponents’ average, and walked 11 while fanning 54 in 40.1 IP. He throws the standard four pitches, including a low-90s fastball, with his slider and change being his main secondary pitches. The Pirates signed him as a non-drafted free agent.
2019 Josephina pitched in relief in the GCL. He had an easy time, but he was four years older than the league’s average hitter. Josphina figures to be an organizational pitcher at the lower levels. |
