| The Pirates used their competitive balance pick on Lodolo, a tall prep lefty who’s primarily a projection pick. Most of the draft commentators rated him as a third or fourth round pick. He’s thrown his fastball 92-93 mph, but during the season he sat primarily in the upper-80s. The Pirates no doubt hope he’ll add velocity. They probably also like the fact that he commands the fastball well and keeps it down, potentially producing a lot of ground balls. His breaking ball needs work; some scouts see it as a potential plus pitch and some don’t. His change also needs work. Lodolo has a commitment to Texas Christian University. |
