WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
The Pirates signed Tomaszewski out of independent ball. He played collegiate ball at LeTourneau University, a Division III school. He appears to have been his team’s top hitter, batting 354/448/492 with two HRs as a senior and 366/467/549 with four HRs as a junior. He played first as a sophomore, outfield as a junior and third as a senior.
2012 Tomaszewski played in the North American League, mostly dividing his time between first and right. He obviously struggled to hit. He was reportedly the youngest starting position player in the league. 2013 Tomaszewski played 13 games in the Canadian-American Association and then 13 in the Frontier League before the Pirates signed him, hitting very little at either stop. 2014 Tomaszewski was the primary first baseman at Bristol, getting a little under half the playing time there. Apart from a good walk rate, he did little at the plate. If Tomaszewski returns, he’ll fill in somewhere at the lower levels. He doesn’t have any track record to suggest that he’s likely to hit as a pro, so it’s a little puzzling that the Pirates would give him playing time. |
