WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES

The Pirates signed Sopena after his senior year at Eastern Illinois.  He played for Heartland Community College in 2010-11.  He didn’t hit much in college.  Sopena missed the latter part of his senior season due to a broken left hand and a broken right thumb.

2014
R+:  100/206/133, 30 AB, 1 2B, 3 BB, 17 K, 0-1 SB
A-:  125/222/125, 8 AB, 1 BB, 5 K

Sopena played sparingly at Bristol, with some brief stints at Jamestown when the Jammers had doubleheaders.  He played mostly second and was overmatched at the plate.

Sopena didn’t show anything in his brief opportunities in 2014.  If he returns, it’ll be as a fill-in at the lower levels.
