WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Dotel is a shortstop who signed at a little older age than the better Latin American prospects.
2018 Dotel was the primary shortstop for one of the Pirates’ Dominican Summer League teams. He just held his own at the plate, with bad plate discipline but some speed on the bases. On defense, he had trouble with errors, committing 18 in 43 games at short. At the end of the rookie level season, the Pirates moved Dotel up to the GCL to fill an opening. 2019 The Pirates sent Dotel to Bristol to start the season, but he got little playing time. He got hurt in early July and went to the GCL when he returned in August. He got limited playing time there as well, at second, third and short. He didn’t hit at all in his few opportunities. Dotel figures to be a lower-level utility player in 2020, if he can find a role somewhere. |
