Alcime was the Pirates’ second biggest international signing in 2015, after Lolo Sanchez. He was signed with the hope that he’d become a power hitter. He’s strictly a corner outfielder.
2016 Alcime split his time between left and right. At the plate, he was badly overmatched, with an extremely high K rate and little power. 2017 The Pirates sent Alcime back to the DSL and he made no noticeable progress. He was plagued by various injuries during the season, which probably didn’t help. He was hit in the face by a pitch at the end of the season. Alcime was scheduled to be in fall instructionals, but it wasn’t clear whether he’d be ready after getting hit in the face. If he does go to the GCL in 2018, he may have a very tough time if he doesn’t make dramatic progress. |
