WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Foster played four years at Nevada, mostly in a part-time role. He didn’t hit much his first two years, with an OPS of .593 and .660. He played more his junior year and put up a 310/407/535 line, then hit 206/439/441 as a senior in only 68 ABs. The Pirates signed him as a non-drafted free agent.
2019 Foster was the primary first baseman in the GCL and started five games behind the plate. He drew a lot of walks, but had severe problems making contact despite the fact that he was old for the level. Foster continued a puzzling pattern for the Pirates of using non-prospects at first base with most of their affiliates. It was especially puzzling in the GCL, where the team was overloaded with outfielders who were unable to get regular playing time. The fact that Foster was signed as a catcher and wasn’t a good hitter in college makes it all the more puzzling. |
