WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Marcano signed at age 17 out of Venezuela and wasn’t a high-profile signing. His best pitch is a curve.
2017 The Pirates used Marcano mostly as a starter and he got in a lot of innings for a pitcher in his first year. He pitched well, with good control, but may have worn down a bit late in the season. He had a 5.82 ERA in August, with most of the damage coming in one very bad start that inflated his stats. 2018 Marcano was invited to the fall instructional league and, after a solid 2017 season, seemed a good bet to be in the GCL rotation in 2018. Instead, he went back initially to the DSL and made four relief appearances. The Pirates moved him up to the GCL and he made three widely scattered relief appearances, then didn’t pitch after early August. Marcano probably wasn’t healthy in 2018. Hopefully, he’ll have better luck in 2019. |
