Fuentes was already 21 when he signed, as his family didn’t want him to sign at an earlier age.
2014 Fuentes got hurt and missed most of the season. 2015 The Pirates sent Fuentes back to the DSL, where he was the regular first baseman. He also played a few games at third and in the outfield. He was the team’s best hitter, with easily the most power, but he was very old for the league. 2016 The Pirates moved Fuentes up to Bristol, no doubt because he was already 24 when the season started. He split his time between first base, left field and DH. Considering his age, his defensive limitations and the fact that the Appalachian League is a hitters league, his numbers were poor. 2017 Fuentes opened the season at Morgantown, but once the 2017 draftees started reporting he went to Bristol. He divided his time there between first base and DH, and put up stats that were almost identical to his 2016 numbers. Fuentes will be 26 by the time the short season leagues start play in 2018, so he’s obviously not a prospect. If he returns, he’ll probably fill in at either Bristol or Morgantown. |
