DiGiacomo (pronounced De-jock-a-mo) is a speedy center fielder who gets a 70 grade for his speed. Baseball America rated him the 465th best player in the draft, saying that he should go after the tenth round. He’s got a commitment to LSU, which is a program that has produced a few speedy plus defensive center fielders with bats that need improvement. He runs good routes, but has weak arm strength. He hit for a .379/.425/.663 line with six homers this year, but BA describes him as a “slap and run” hitter, which is an approach that would probably lead to less power in the pros. He should be a good project if he signs, but would definitely need an over-slot deal, since he has a good chance of really improving his stock by going to college and trying to improve his bat there. |
