WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Goforth was an all-conference catcher for Carson-Newman. He was also one of the team’s two best hitters, putting up a 376/483/672 line. The power was a significant increase from 2018, when he hit 318/394/448. His home run total went from two to a team-leading 11. Goforth runs well enough that he stole 15 bases in 19 attempts. He threw out 33% of base stealers in 2018. MLB.com lists him as a senior, but he redshirted in his freshman year so he had a year of eligibility remaining. He signed a week after the draft.
2019 The Pirates sent Goforth to Bristol, where he was the backup to Eli Wilson. At the plate he showed a little power, but his walk and K rates obviously were very bad. Behind the plate, he looked at times like his receiving could improve, but he threw out 37% of base stealers. Goforth figures to back up at the lower levels. He seems to have some upside as a power hitter, but needs to make much better contact. |
