WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Barrios signed at age 17, not long before spring training. He’s a small infielder with good speed.
2018 Barrios just held his own at the plate during his debut, showing no power at all. He had a good OBP due to a strong walk rate, but small players with no power who get by on walks in the DSL don’t tend to be a successful demographic. He divided his time between short, third and second, in that order of frequency. 2019 Barrios was out until mid-July and got limited playing time after that. He played mostly second and third, with just a few innings at short. He obviously didn’t hit at all. The Pirates should have a lot of players moving up from the DSL in 2020, so Barrios may have trouble finding a role as a utility player at the lowest levels. |
