Andriese was drafted as a senior and signed quickly. He was rated by Baseball America as one of the top 50 college seniors in this draft, being named 50th overall on the list. He had never previously been drafted. Andriese displayed some on-base ability in his last two collegiate seasons, but hasn’t shown much power for a corner outfielder. He stole 12 bases his last year, which was almost double his total from the first three years. Andriese is likely to be an organizational player.
2014 The Pirates moved Andriese to first and he split time there with Kevin Ross. Apart from a good walk rate he did little on offense, striking out a great deal for a player not hitting for power. 2015 Andriese returned to the NYPL and got some playing time early on at first, but continued to show little at the plate and lost most of the playing time to Albert Baur. Andriese got only 16 plate appearances after July. It’d be surprising if Andriese returns in 2016, all the more so because he’ll be 25 when the season starts. |
