WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES

Baseball America rated Thomas the 89th best prospect in the draft and thought he would go in the first two rounds.  He seems to involve more projection than the typical college hitter.  He has good speed, but played left in college because Georgia Tech had an even faster player in center.  Scouts think he could produce more power with corrections to his swing.  The Pirates’ selection of Thomas, Wyatt Mathisen and Barrett Barnes appeared to indicate an effort to add hitting and a departure from the team’s fascination with prep RHPs.
