WTM’S PIRATE PLAYER PROFILES |
The Pirates regarded Lorenzo highly when they signed him. At the time he threw in the low-90s, with promising secondary stuff. He hasn’t developed much, though, and missed most of one season due to a drug suspension.
2010 Lorenzo didn’t pitch well as a starter in his first season. He didn’t get hit hard, but struggled with his control. 2011 Lorenzo missed most of the season due to a 50-game suspension for violating the minor league drug policy. 2012 Lorenzo mostly pitched out of the bullpen. He improved over his first season, but still had poor walk and K rates. 2013 Lorenzo continued pitching in relief and made some more progress, although his K rate was very low. The Pirates brought Lorenzo to camp in 2014, as he can’t pitch in the DSL any longer. He could be assigned to Bristol. |
