WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Suero signed with the Pirates a little before he turned 17. He got a bonus of $100,000.
2017 Suero suffered a minor arm injury during spring training, then after returning had control problems that were bad enough that the Pirates held him out for the rest of the season. 2018 Suero made 11 starts in the DSL. He still had control problems, but they weren’t drastic, and he struck out a lot of hitters. He pitched well in the season’s first half, with a 3.10 ERA through his first five starts. After two bad starts, the Pirates cut back sharply on the length of his outings. He had another bad outing in his last game. 2019 Suero pitched in relief in the GCL, sometimes as a closer. Opponents batted only .222 against him and he obviously missed a lot of bats, but the control problems continued. Suero seems to have effective stuff and could move up a ways if he starts finding the plate. |
