WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
After pitching sparingly as a freshman for Western Oregon U, Roth moved into the starting rotation as a sophomore. He put up a 3.77 ERA in 57.1 innings, with a .253 BAA and a 58:26 SO/BB ratio. He improved on those numbers this year as a junior, posting a 2.35 ERA in 61.1 innings, with an 87:25 SO/BB ratio and a .200 BAA. Roth is an athletic player, who also played basketball in high school. He set a school and conference record with 15 strikeouts in a game in late March. Roth threw 89-92 with a slider when drafted, but he was getting over 93 during the off-season.
2019 Roth pitched in short relief for Bristol, sometimes as closer. He missed a lot of bats and had a reverse platoon split. Right-handed batters had a .707 OPS against him and left-handed batters just .480. The big question for Roth will be how well his stuff plays at higher levels. |
