Fuselier’s numbers in college weren’t as impressive as what you typically see, but his school seems to have played in a slightly low-offense environment. He was the team’s second-best hitter in his junior year. He saw a spike in his power in 2011, mostly from extra base hits, which is notable considering the new bats. He also pitched some in college. He’s a good all around athlete, with a good arm. He signed shortly after the draft.
2011 Fuselier struggled in his introduction at State College. He had a good walk total, but hit for very little power. He struggled equally against LHPs and RHPs. He split his time mostly between left and right, with seven games in center. He recorded five assists from right in just 23 games. 2012 Fuselier lost out on the outfield backup job at West Virginia to Junior Sosa and opened 2012 in extended spring training. He returned to State College for most of the Spikes’ season, playing all three OF positions. He moved up to West Virginia when Gregory Polanco was hurt. He continued to struggle at the plate. The Pirates have a lot of outfielders at the lower levels, so Fuselier may have trouble finding a job in the system. If he does, it’ll be backing up in class A. |
