WTM’s PLAYER PROFILE |
Bastardo is a big guy with good bat speed and a power-first profile. He signed as an outfielder, but by 2021 appeared to have shifted to first base.
2019 Bastardo showed some power in his debut. He didn’t hit for average, but his plate discipline was fine. He played exclusively in right. 2020 2021 The Pirates sent Bastardo to the FCL, where he played first base semi-regularly. He showed some power, but had trouble making contact. 2022 Bastardo went back to the FCL, but he hardly played, appearing in only a dozen games and starting only four. In prior years, the Pirates probably would have sent Bastardo to one of the short season leagues for 2022, but they’re gone now. It’s not easy to see the point of carrying a player so young all season and having him play so little. |
