The GCL game versus the Phillies was postponed by rain with the Pirates up 1-0 in the 2nd. They will finish the game today and then play today’s regularly scheduled game which will now be 7 innings. The bad part for the Pirates was that Luis Heredia was on the mound and he looked very good in the 1st inning getting his first two career strikeouts in a perfect inning pitched. The rain likely cut his outing short by 1-2 innings.

Probable starter: Kyle McPherson (1-2 3.24)
McPherson is making his 4th start since being promoted to Altoona. He went 5ip his last start giving up 2 earned runs and taking the loss. He has allowed just 6 earned runs in his 3 starts but he has given up 5 home runs already. He has recorded four strikeouts in each of his three starts.
High-A: Bradenton (34-41) VS St Lucie (41-33) 6:00pm
Probable starter: Brett Lorin (2-4 2.88)
Brett Lorin gets his tenth start of the season today, he has also made five relief appearances. As a starter he has a 3.67 ERA in 41.2 innings. He has recorded 60 strikeouts in his 59.1 innings pitched. He is tied with Kyle McPherson for the team lead in K’s but has pitched 12 less innings than McPherson did before getting promoted.
Low-A: West Virginia (38-35) VS Lexington (36-39) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Colton Cain (5-5 3.04)
Colton Cain makes his 15th start today. He leads the team in innings pitched with 74 and among starters he has the best WHIP at 0.97 and leads in ERA with a 3.04 mark. He has 58 strikeouts, just one behind team leader, Zack Von Rosenberg. Colton has a 2.25 ERA in four June starts and he pitched 6 scoreless innings in his last outing on Thursday. Tim Williams will be in West Virginia tonight to cover Colton’s start.
Short Season A: State College (2-9) @ Mahoning Valley (8-3) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Bryce Weidman (1-1 1.80)
Weidman makes his first start of the season tonight. Last year he made three starts in the GCL but pitched just 8 innings total including one relief appearance. The 6′ 4″ twenty year old RHP was a 14th round draft pick last year.
