For an in depth review of yesterday’s games please check out our minor league wrap-up which can be found here. Indianapolis will play a day-night doubleheader today to make up for the postponed game on Thursday. Altoona will play a traditional doubleheader due to a prior rainout. Bradenton is currently on their All-Star break. They don’t play again until Monday when the FSL team records will reset to 0-0 for the 2nd half. The VSL Pirates play the 2nd place Mariners team today. They lead them by just 1/2 game in the standing and these are the same two teams that met in last year’s VSL championship series won by the Pirates.
Tonight’s scheduled starter for State College is Ryan Hafner. He is a 19 year old 6′ 6″ right handed pitcher. The 2010 draft pick was chosen in the 17th round and signed in August for $450k. He was assigned to the GCL team where he made his pro debut shortly after joining the team. In two appearances he gave up 2 runs in 2 innings with 3 hits allowed, one walk and two strikeouts.
Jeff Locke starts one game of tomorrow’s doubleheader for Altoona. In his last six starts he has struck out 39 batters over just 31 innings. In his last three starts he has allowed just one earned run in each of them. He currently ranks 6th in the Eastern League in strikeouts with 70.
