Welcome to the Pirates Prospects daily video rundown, where we pull some of the top videos of the Pittsburgh Pirates across the internet.
Luis Ortiz
It wasn’t the best of nights for Ortiz, who allowed seven hits and five earned runs in an inning-plus of work. He did pick up a strikeout on this nasty slider against Anthony Volpe.

Andres Alvarez
The only player in Altoona Curve history with a 20/20 season, Andres Alvarez isn’t a slouch with the glove as well, making this nice play at shortstop on Monday.

Chavez Young
One of the more welcome surprises in camp right now, Young added to his spring resume with a solo home run in the ninth, making the score 9-2.

Dylan Crews
The LSU star and potential first overall pick continued his strong start to the season with another home run, this one to center field.

Anthony began writing over 10 years ago, starting a personal blog to cover the 2011 MLB draft, where the Pirates selected first overall. After bouncing around many websites covering hockey, he refocused his attention to baseball, his first love when it comes to sports. He eventually found himself here at Pirates Prospects in late 2021, where he covers the team’s four full season minor league affiliates.
Is it just me or is it kinda sad that there are more highlights for a potential draft pick than for all the folks in spring camp?
If they are pressing to win (as supposedly everyone is saying this spring) then I would say Haines’ presence in the coaching ranks betrays that sense of urgency. Last year’s hitting was abysmal even for an abysmal hitting year across baseball. Can’t say I’m a Shelton fan either. Where’s the accountability?
Crews is probably getting more hits per game than the Pirates
Nothing like a minor leaguer bat-flipping on a solo homer in the ninth inning of a 9-2 Spring Training game #baseball
His bat flip in that situation gave me the same kind of thoughts.
I am groot.
