The Pittsburgh Pirates (13-18) take on the Cincinnati Reds (8-24) on Friday night in game two of a four-game series at PNC Park, starting at 6:35 PM. Mitch Keller (0-4, 6.11) will be on the mound against right-hander Tyler Mahle (1-4, 6.46), in a battle of two pitchers off to slow starts this season.
The Pirates claimed Tyler Beede off of waivers yesterday. He was added to the active roster for tonight’s game and Cam Alldred was optioned to Indianapolis to make room. Alldred tossed a scoreless inning last night in his big league debut.
The Pirates lost Sam Howard on waivers earlier today.

Mitch Keller will always suck shit.
MAN we suck!!!
Our suckitude is beyond suck. It’s like a blackhole of suck.
Hembree is further proof that the Pirates can’t pick out good retreads, lol.
Cherington has shown no ability to build a bullpen, or find quality pitching in general. But that also might have something to do with the quality of our coaching not being able to get the best out of pitchers. The more things change…
Yeah and it’s frustrating to watch what they did with Sulser and then Alldred just so we could watch Underwood again and now we get to watch Beede prove why he’s who he is.
Hembree is throwing BP.
That’s nothing new, he has sucked for a few years now. Our top FA reliever!!!!
He’s another who has a contract so he’s gonna pitch until they get their money’s worth.
You have your white flag pitchers, and you have your pitchers who turn it into a white flag game.
Still can’t get over Hembree coming into spring training with an actual contract and not being a non-roster invite like he should’ve been.
Hembree’s another groover
Reynolds is the hitting version of Keller this year.
He’s partying like it’s 2020.
They’re both worthless at this point
He was on a bit of a roll, but shaved off the stache again. He needs the stache.
He hit a couple empty HR’s that didn’t affect the outcome. He has failed miserably in the clutch this far.
Keller is soooo disappointing.
Very true but you have to wonder if it’s Keller or if this organization has any idea how to evaluate and handle pitchers.
I’m a pretty patient guy when it comes to developing pitchers but Keller has lost me.
When do they stop showing reruns?
🤦🤬🤬🤬
Imagine that another hard hit ball.
Bad teams waste leadoff doubles
Keller is a bad pitcher, hope not to see any more Keller articles anytime soon. It’s been hard contact after hard contact. He’s not a strike out pitcher and certainly not a pitch to contact guy.
His breaking pitches fool nobody. He can get strikeouts on guys that go up ready to swing away, but loses every time against more patient hitters. He either gets into walk trouble or starts to put fastballs in the zone that get hammered.
The only thing I’ve ever seen from Mitch Keller that’s lead me to believe he was a potential ace, were media outlets saying he was going to be a potential ace…
Just saw the 4th inning. His FB is too flat with no movement just by the eye test. Wonder what his spin rate is?
He and Brubaker are groovers. They like to see how hard guys can hit it
May 13th and Reynolds has 6 RBI’s. That’s a problem.
Rally killer. Should’ve trade him at his highest value.
Root for the Pens!!!
Why did they have Keller completely change his approach from fastball heavy in the first to almost all breaking stuff in the second.
Gave up two hard hit balls in the 1st, so maybe it doesn’t matter?!?!
Keller, Contreras, Quintana and Peters. I like that rotation. That rotation and some hitting could win a lot of games
Have yourself a monster first half Ben Gamel!
Gamel is clearly the MVP for this team as of today. Make of that what you will.
Clean living and a fast outfield
Which Mitch Keller shows up tonight?
So far, so good…I guess. 3 hitters and two barrels for outs. That’s sustainable for 5-6 innings, right?
Hard hit after hard hit, some were bound to fall. Actually many are bound to fall.
Nope
“Alldred tossed a scoreless inning”
Bad idea.
Doubly stupid since Alldred could pitch tonight but Underdog is probably unavailable. It’s amazing how they have ‘fixed’ Beede in the last 24 hours.
Beede is not fix, they gonna take a look, basically wait and see what he has. Once he gets to the 6+ ERA then the work of fixing him will begin.
“Oh the inhumanity!”
Shoulda demoted underwood.
He wasn’t pitching well in his rehab. Couldn’t throw strikes. So he’s ready, and Kranick, Alldred and Sulser aren’t. More dummery.
It’s a year long try out camp. They had to give Underwood a contract. They’re going to get there money’s worth through innings pitched, no matter how bad he pitches.
You clearly don’t have the proper respect for Veteranosity.
