Winter Leagues: A Recap of Recent Pirates Playoff Action in Colombia and Puerto Rico

A recap of recent winter league action for players on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Sunday

In the playoffs in Colombia, Tsung-Che Cheng went 1-for-3 with two runs, two walks and a stolen base. The top of his team’s lineup looked like a Pirates prospect reunion, with Cheng followed by Carlos Arroyo, Harold Ramirez, Dilson Herrera and Tito Polo in the 1-5 spots. Cheng played his first playoff game on Saturday and he went 2-for-4 with two singles and a run scored.

In Puerto Rico, Michael Perez went 0-for-1 with a strikeout as a pinch-hitter.

Oddy Nunez, who is still a free agent at the time, pitched five strong innings, allowing one run on seven hits, no walks and four strikeouts.

Monday

In Colombia, Francisco Acuna went 1-for-3 with a double, walk and two RBIs. He was the only Pirates player to see action during a light day on the schedule.

Tuesday

In Puerto Rico, Roberto Perez played his third game and had an 0-for-4 night. He is 0-for-10 with a walk this winter.

Michael Perez had an 0-for-3 night, with a walk. He is 2-for-9 with a walk in the playoffs.

In Colombia, Tsung-Che Cheng went 2-for-4 with a run, RBI and a walk. He’s 5-for-11 with four runs and three walks in the playoffs.

Francisco Acuna went 0-for-2 before leaving early in a one-sided game. He is 4-for-15 with three doubles and two walks in the playoffs.
