MLB Network to Air 14 Pirates Spring Training Games

Published:

MLB Network released their full schedule of Spring Training broadcasts on Wednesday morning. The Pittsburgh Pirates will be shown 14 times total between February 27th and March 24th.

This schedule only adds two new games for those of you who can view contests on AT&T SportsNet Pittsburgh. That full schedule can be viewed here. They are showing 14 games as well, though two (Feb 23 and Feb 25) are not part of the MLB Network schedule, so there will be 16 games total on TV this spring.

This is obviously much more interesting to those of you (including me) outside of the Pittsburgh area. Only two of these games will be new and I’ve indicated those below by highlighting the entire listing. Because MLB Network broadcasts around 200 Spring Training games in one month, most are not shown live, so you might need to use your DVR skills, or a few blank VCR tapes if you still live in the 20th century.

Here’s the full list from MLB Network (which is subject to change, though it rarely does):

Feb 27: vs Red Sox 6:00 AM (tape delayed from 1:00 PM on Feb 26)

Feb 29: vs Orioles 6:00 AM (tape delayed from 1:00 PM on Feb 28)

Mar 12: vs Blue Jays 1:00 PM LIVE

Mar 14: vs Twins 3:00 AM (tape delayed from 6:00 PM on Mar 13)

John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects.
