With Derek Shelton in the mix as the new Pirates manager, the next order of business will be filling out the MLB coaching positions. That will include a pitching coach to replace Ray Searage.
Robert Murray and Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic both report that the Pirates are looking at Oscar Marin, who is the current bullpen coach for the Texas Rangers, for that position. Biertempfel reports that he will interview for the position tomorrow.

I won’t break down the qualifications of Marin or other pitching coaches connected to the position. I think that whoever they get needs to mirror the addition of Rick Eckstein to the hitting side last year. They need a pitching coach who is well versed in today’s available technology, and follows modern pitching philosophies.
Justin Meccage was retained by the Pirates in a non-specific role. You’d have to think that he’ll get an interview for the position. Minor league pitching coordinator Scott Mitchell is another guy from within the organization who should get an interview.
