The Pirates appear to be getting closer to hiring a new General Manager, with Matt Arnold and Ben Cherington both having second interviews this week.
Can confirm the various reports that Matt Arnold and Ben Cherington will interview again this week for the Pirates’ GM job. @Joelsherman1 previously reported that there are three finalists, and some within the industry believe the unconfirmed candidate is interim GM Kevan Graves.

My preference would be Cherington as President of Baseball Operations, Arnold as his GM, and Graves as an assistant GM. We don’t know if the Pirates are considering such a move, and as of right now I would only expect them to hire one person in the classic GM role.
But one can hope that Bob Nutting and Travis Williams — two people who have no clue how to run a baseball team — will know the trends of the most successful baseball teams today, and move beyond that classic GM position.
