Live Discussion: Pirates at Giants, 9:45 PM

The Pittsburgh Pirates (62-81) travel out west for four games against the San Francisco Giants (69-74). The Pirates will send out Trevor Williams tonight in the series opener. He has a 5.16 ERA in 125.2 innings, with 96 strikeouts and a 1.38 WHIP. He has put up solid stats in his last three outings, giving up a total of five runs over 19 innings (2.37 ERA). Williams did not pitch when these two clubs met back in April at PNC Park.

The Giants are countering with veteran lefty Madison Bumgarner, who has a 3.81 ERA in 181.2 innings, with 179 strikeouts and a 1.12 WHIP. He gave up six runs over five innings against the St Louis Cardinals in his last start.  Bumgarner has a 2.83 ERA at home and 5.06 on the road. He gave up four runs over six innings in a loss to the Pirates back on April 19th.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions.
