Live Discussion: Pirates at Brewers, 2:10 PM

Published:

The Pittsburgh Pirates (65-89) are playing a three-game series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers (84-70). In game three today, Trevor Williams will take the mound for his 25th start. He has a 5.59 ERA in 133.2 innings, with 102 strikeouts and a 1.45 WHIP. Williams gave up seven runs over 2.1 innings in his last start, going up against the Chicago Cubs. He has faced the Brewers just once this season, allowing six runs over five innings back on August 7th.

The Brewers will counter with 26-year-old right-hander Brandon Woodruff, who has a 3.69 ERA in 119.2 innings, with 140 strikeouts and a 1.16 WHIP. He just returned on Tuesday from a strained oblique injury that kept him out for two months. In his only outing since mid-July, Woodruff tossed two shutout innings, with no hits, one walk and four strikeouts. He faced the Pirates three times in June, giving up six runs over four innings in the first game, before bouncing back with three runs over six frames, followed by one run over 7.2 innings in the third game.

When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
