The Cardinals will counter with 27-year-old right-hander Daniel Ponce de Leon, who has a 1.99 ERA in 31.2 innings, with 38 strikeouts and an 0.82 WHIP. He gave up one run over 6.2 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks in his last start. In three home starts, he has a 1.02 ERA and an 0.62 WHIP, with a .121 BAA.
Pirates announced to the local media before today’s game that Gregory Polanco had his rehab shut down. He’s dealing with shoulder soreness now, though they say there is nothing structurally wrong.
