Felipe Vazquez Didn’t Get Traded

Published:

The trade deadline has passed, and while some trades could still be announced, Felipe Vazquez won’t be one of the traded players. That’s according to multiple sources, including Ken Rosenthal and Jeff Passan, who are reporting that Vazquez wasn’t traded.

A lot of the discussion about Vazquez centered around the Dodgers, with the Pirates reportedly wanting top prospects like Gavin Lux and Dustin May. The Dodgers didn’t want to deal their top guys, and the Pirates didn’t cave on Vazquez and take a lesser return, leading to no deal.

The Pirates could still shop Vazquez in the offseason, although they technically weren’t shopping him this time around, as much as listening to offers. He’s under team control through the 2023 season, so he should have plenty of value going forward. The question is whether the Pirates can find a team who will be willing to pay that value for a reliever.
