Brandon Waddell Promoted to Indianapolis

Published:

Pirates Prospects has learned that Altoona Curve left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell has been promoted to Indianapolis. The Pirates yesterday promoted West Virginia Power reliever Blake Weiman to Bradenton and moved up Eduardo Vera from Bradenton to Altoona, taking Waddell’s place in the rotation tonight.

Waddell has spent parts of three seasons in Altoona, though no full years. He began 2016 in Bradenton and was promoted after a very impressive start to his season. Last year he dealt with forearm issues that had him on the disabled list twice. He made up some lost time in the Arizona Fall League after the season, pitching well in relief.

Except for a hiccup in his last start, Waddell has been outsanding this season, posting a 2.68 ERA in 53.2 innings, with 43 strikeouts, a 1.08 WHIP, a .206 BAA and a 1.37 GO/AO ratio.

To make room on the Indianapolis roster, Jerrick Suiter was assigned to Morgantown.
