Andrew McCutchen, Francisco Cervelli, David Freese, and Jordy Mercer Hurt Tonight

Published:

MIAMI – Andrew McCutchen and Francisco Cervelli both left tonight’s game against the Marlins early. Cervelli left with right foot discomfort, while McCutchen left with right thumb discomfort.

Cervelli was hit in the inside of his right foot with a pitch in the second inning and immediately went down in pain. After being looked at by the trainer, he took his base, but was running slow. He called for a trainer an inning later and left the game in the bottom of the third, with Chris Stewart replacing him.

McCutchen lined out to shortstop in the top of the sixth inning, then was replaced by Sean Rodriguez in the lineup in the bottom half of the inning, with an announcement later that he left with right thumb discomfort.

Both players are being evaluated, and more updates will come as they’re available.

UPDATE 10:00 PM: David Freese was hit in the right hand with a pitch in the top of the eighth inning. He was removed in a double switch, with John Jaso replacing him in the bottom half of the inning. It was announced that he had right hand discomfort.

UPDATE 10:32 PM: Jordy Mercer was hit in the left elbow with a pitch in the ninth inning. He was pulled in the bottom of the ninth, and you can probably guess the official reason: Left elbow discomfort.
