The West Virginia Black Bears, the new minor league affiliate in Morgantown, released their team logo today. The logo can be seen below.
The Black Bears are replacing the team in Jamestown, playing in the New York-Penn League. Their first game will be on June 19th against Mahoning Valley. It’s still way too soon to tell who will be on the roster, and a lot of that will be determined by the 2015 draft. That said, there’s a good chance that 2014 first round pick Cole Tucker could be playing in Morgantown this year, along with the possibility of second round prep pitchers Mitch Keller and Trey Supak.
Tim started Pirates Prospects in 2009 from his home in Virginia, which was 40 minutes from where Pedro Alvarez made his pro debut in Lynchburg. That year, the Lynchburg Hillcats won the Carolina League championship, and Pirates Prospects was born from Tim's reporting along the way. The site has grown over the years to include many more writers, and Tim has gone on to become a credentialed MLB reporter, producing Pirates Prospects each year, and will publish his 11th Prospect Guide this offseason. He has also served as the Pittsburgh Pirates correspondent for Baseball America since 2019. Behind the scenes, Tim is an avid music lover, and most of the money he gets paid to run this site goes to vinyl records.
Looks like a label on a micro brew that’s not very tasty.
I give it a 7 on a 10 scale. Pretty good!
I like it too. Still they should have been called the Coal Barrons and the top of the mountain in the logo should have been blown off with all the mine runoff running into a fetid stream at the foot of the mountain… And instead of a bear, at the foot of the logo could have been the money-bags guy from the Monopoly game…
or… maybe not…

Don’t care for the script, but the logo is really nice.
Their logo is at least a 5.0 WAR.
I like it. Has a bit of symbolism too, the Black Bears players are at the bottom of the mountain, called the minor leagues, trying to climb their way up to the bigs.
