Locke optioned, Morel called up

In a paper move to get the most usable players on the roster before they expand on September 1st, the Pirates have optioned Jeff Locke and called up Brent Morel. Locke is still in line to start on Tuesday against the Cardinals, just as Gerrit Cole, who was optioned yesterday, will start on Monday.

I would have preferred to have Martinez because of his ability to PR.
(that’s about all I’d need him or mushroom for.)

Funny how at any other time during the season these moves would be meet with vehement anger. Yet three days before rosters expand they make perfect sense. Man oh man, baseball is a great game, or roller coaster,whichever you prefer. Either way ya just clench up and prepare to scream. ( joy or anguish? It all depends on the ride.)

pb: Just think, we missed all of this for 20 years, and I am not sure we had the type of folks in the front office who knew how to play the system like this. Watch out, because when the Pirates undressed MLB in the draft, they changed the rules.
