Andrew McCutchen Named NL Player of the Month

Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen has been named the National League Player of the Month for June. He led the league with 20 extra-base hits during the month, hitting eight homers and driving in 25 runs, both of which tied for the NL lead. He finished second in the NL last month in hits, doubles and slugging percentage. In 26 games, he had a .343/.410/.686 slash line. Earlier in the month, McCutchen was named the NL Player of the Week.

McCutchen has now won the NL Player of the Month award three times, going back-to-back in June/July 2012.

  • Very few players have the ability to just impose their will on the game like Andrew. It seems like a couple of times a year he just decides “OK, it’s time for me to take over and put this team on my back”.
