Indianapolis has an early afternoon start today with Justin Wilson on the mound. He faced today’s opponent(Durham) on 4/29, throwing the first 7.1 innings of a combined no-hitter. Shairon Martis will make his fourth start of the season tonight. He allowed three runs in six innings during his last start, giving up five hits and striking out six. In his previous start, Martis allowed just one hit(a solo homer) in six innings. He has pitched seven games in relief this season, the first four while with Indianapolis. Batters are hitting .148 against him in 24 innings at Altoona.

Tyler Waldron will make his ninth start of the season, he also made two relief appearances earlier in the year. He has pitched a total of 49.2 innings, giving up 55 hits, nine walks and he has 35 strikeouts. In his last start, Tyler allowed one earned run in seven innings. He gave up four hits, no walks and struck out a season high seven batters. In his previous outing, Waldron threw six shutout innings. At home this year, he has a 3-1 3.63 record in 34.2 innings.

Low-A: West Virginia (17-35) VS Lakewood (19-32) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Matt Benedict (2-3 2.89)

Matt Benedict will make his 11th start of the year tonight. He has pitched a total of 56 innings, allowing 52 hits, 15 walks, no homers and he has struck out 35 batters. In his last start, Matt gave up two runs in seven innings, allowing three hits and two walks. At home this year, he has a 1-2 3.89 record in six starts. Benedict has held right-handed batters to a .218 average this season.

John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball.
