First Pitch: Covering Indianapolis For the First Time

Published:

This weekend I will be heading down to Durham to cover the four game series between the Indianapolis Indians and the Durham Bulls.

The thought occurred to me that, despite this site being in its fourth year of existence, I’ve never covered the Indianapolis Indians live. In 2009 I only covered the Lynchburg Hillcats, not that there was much to cover in Indianapolis at the time. In 2010 I expanded to West Virginia, Altoona, and State College, but my Indianapolis coverage was limited to watching the games on MiLB.tv. Last year Nancy Zinni joined the site, providing live game coverage from Indianapolis.

Add in the fact that it’s a nine hour drive to Indianapolis, and I usually see the players at Triple-A as they’re making their way through the system, and this weekend will be my first time seeing that team live.

Fortunately it will be a good weekend to see them in action. The pitching lineup will be Jo-Jo Reyes on Friday, Rudy Owens on Saturday, Justin Wilson on Sunday, and Jeff Locke on Monday. Free Matt Hague is with the team. I’ll always take four games of watching Starling Marte. Hopefully Chase d’Arnaud will return from his concussion, giving me the chance to see him play. And Jose Morales, who was intriguing when I saw him toward the end of Spring Training, was activated from the disabled list last week.

I’ll be heading down tomorrow, and will have live updates and nightly reports from each game.
