The Mesa Solar Sox won 10-8 today against Phoenix. Two Pittsburgh Pirates prospects pitched today, while one hitter was in the lineup. The pitchers were Nathan Baker and Michael Colla. Baker had another rough outing, his fourth bad outing in his last five appearances, and his worst of the season. The left hander allowed five runs on four hits in two innings, with two walks and a strikeout. He came on in the fourth inning and gave up a run, then allowed four runs in the fifth inning, giving up a grand slam to Grant Green.
Mesa carried a two run lead in to the ninth inning, and Michael Colla came on for the save. Colla pitched a perfect inning to pick up his second save of the AFL season, giving Mesa the win. It was a nice rebound from his last outing, when he gave up two runs in 1.1 innings, walking three during the outing.
Jarek Cunningham was the only Pirates hitting prospect to play today. He went 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, and was caught stealing. Cunningham has a .243/.298/.446 line in 74 at-bats on the season.
