Minor League Schedule: 5/5/11

Indianapolis and West Virginia both had the day off last night, all four teams are on the schedule for today after just four total games in the last two days. Please take note of the early morning start time in Altoona. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

Pribanic gets the early morning start today for Altoona

AAA: Indianapolis (8-19) @ Norfolk (10-16) 7:15pm
Probable starter: Brian Burres (0-4 6.39)

Game notes: Indianapolis had the day off yesterday, they resume their schedule today on the road versus Norfolk. Indianapolis is currently in last place, trailing first place Columbus by 13.5 games. John Bowker cleared waivers yesterday and will report to Indy.

AA: Altoona (12-12) VS Akron (13-13) 11:00am
Probable starter: Aaron Pribanic (2-0 1.50)

Game notes: Michael Colla made his second career start last night allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Eric Fryer hit his third homer of the year. Jeremy Farrell drew a walk his 1st AB before leaving the game early for a second straight time. They first time on Monday was due to an ankle injury.

High-A: Bradenton (13-14) VS St Lucie (19-8) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Phillip Irwin (0-0 1.50)

Game notes: Jeff Inman pitched 5 innings yesterday allowing just 1 earned run on 2 hits. Robbie Grossman went 1-3 with a walk,2 stolen bases and 2 RBI’s while Jarek Cunningham drove in his 20th run of the year. Diego Moreno threw 2 innings giving up one run and collected the victory while Ryan Beckman picked up his 5th save of the year (two with WV).

Low-A: West Virginia (11-13) @ Augusta (8-18) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Colton Cain (1-1 4.58)

Game notes: West Virginia had off yesterday and will resume their schedule on the road against the Augusta Greenjackets today. WV is in 6th place in their division trailing Hickory by 6.5 games.

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
