Minor League Schedule: 5/18/11

For a more in depth review of yesterday’s games please check out our minor league wrap-up which can be found here. We have all types of notes for today. Three teams were rained out, all three games have been rescheduled, two of them this week as noted below. We also have an early morning doubleheader for West Virginia with Jameson Taillon currently listed as the game one starter. Indianapolis also plays an early afternoon game with Brad Lincoln pitching. Lineups for today’s games will be posted as soon as they are made available.

Lincoln will get the start this afternoon

AAA: Indianapolis (16-24) VS Buffalo (17-23) 1:05pm
Probable starter: Brad Lincoln (3-3 5.03)

Game notes: Justin Wilson pitched a strong 5.2 IP allowing just 2 hits, 1 run while striking out 4 and picking up his 4th win. Evan Meek on rehab threw 1 IP with one hit allowed and 3 strikeouts. Alex Presley went 3-5 with 2 doubles and 3 runs scored. Chase d’Arnaud went 2-5 with 2 runs scored and a SB

AA: Altoona (18-17) @ Akron (18-19) 7:05pm
Probable starter: Jeff Locke (2-3 3.35)

Game notes: Altoona was rained out yesterday. They will make up the game on Thursday May 19th as part of a doubleheader. Bryan Morris has been activated from the DL and was scheduled to get work in yesterday so he could see action today.

High-A: Bradenton (18-20) VS Dunedin (21-18) 7:00pm
Probable starter: Nate Baker (2-2 5.35)

Game notes: Quinton Miller went 5.2 IP allowing two runs while striking out a season high 5 batters. It’s his 2nd straight start allowing just two runs after his 8 run appearance on May 6th. Robbie Grossman collected 2 hits while Adalberto Santos went 2-3 with a walk, SB and hit his first homer of the year

Low-A: West Virginia (17-18) @ Lexington (18-20) 10:05am DH
Probable starter: Tyler Waldron (4-1 4.30) and Jameson Taillon (1-0 1.80)

Game notes: West Virginia was rained out last night. The game will be made up today as part of a doubleheader.

VSL: VSL Pirates (0-1) VS VSL Rays (0-0) 11:00am

Games notes: The VSL Pirates were rained out yesterday.  They will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on June 6th

John Dreker
John started working at Pirates Prospects in 2009, but his connection to the Pittsburgh Pirates started exactly 100 years earlier when Dots Miller debuted for the 1909 World Series champions. John was born in Kearny, NJ, two blocks from the house where Dots Miller grew up. From that hometown hero connection came a love of Pirates history, as well as the sport of baseball. When he didn't make it as a lefty pitcher with an 80+ MPH fastball and a slider that needed work, John turned to covering the game, eventually focusing in on the prospects side, where his interest was pushed by the big league team being below .500 for so long. John has covered the minors in some form since the 2002 season, and leads the draft and international coverage on Pirates Prospects. He writes daily on Pittsburgh Baseball History, when he's not covering the entire system daily throughout the entire year on Pirates Prospects.
