The Pirates scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st, when they loaded the bases on CF Andrew McCutchen’s lead off single, 2B Delwyn Young’s walk, and RF Ryan Church’s single. �Garrett Jones lifted a sacrifice fly that scored McCutchen from third. �DH Ryan Doumit grounded to second base, for what should have been a double play, but an error by Wigginton at second base put Doumit safely on first, and allowed Young to score. �Unfortunately, that was all the scoring the Pirates would do. �They put two runners on base in the 6th, when Church singled again and Jones walked, but both were left stranded. �Doumit doubled in the 8th, and Crosby walked, but a double play ended that inning without a run scoring. �Two minor leaguers up with the big club for the day, CF Starling Marte and 2B Shelby Ford each singled in the 9th inning, but they were also left on base when the game ended.
PH/RF Steve Pearce, 1B Brian Myrow, PR/DH John Raynor, PR/SS Brock Holt, and C Hector Gimenez also got into the game. �Holt came in to pinch run in the 8th, but only got to stand on the base for one pitch, before the inning ended with the double play. �In the 9th inning, the first batter grounded to Holt at short, and Holt was so excited that he fired the ball to first.. and right up and into the stands.
